Summary.
In a future where Earth is plagued by environmental disasters and dwindling resources, humanity faces extinction. Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a former NASA pilot turned farmer, lives with his daughter Murphy (Mackenzie Foy) and son Tom.
Murphy believes a ghost is communicating with her through gravitational anomalies in her room. These anomalies reveal coordinates leading them to a secret NASA facility run by Professor Brand (Michael Caine).
Brand reveals that NASA has been working on a plan to save humanity. They have discovered a wormhole near Saturn, presumably placed by an unknown intelligence, which leads to a distant galaxy with potentially habitable planets.
The mission, called the Lazarus Project, sent explorers through the wormhole to assess these planets. Cooper is recruited to pilot the Endurance spacecraft alongside scientists Amelia Brand (Anne Hathaway), Doyle, and Romilly.
The crew travels through the wormhole and explores two planets, but both prove inhospitable. Meanwhile, time dilation causes years to pass on Earth, where Murphy (now played by Jessica Chastain) works on an equation to unlock gravity’s secrets and evacuate humanity.
The crew reaches the last viable planet, where they find Dr. Mann (Matt Damon), who betrays them in a desperate attempt to survive.
Cooper and Brand barely escape and attempt a risky maneuver near a black hole called Gargantua. Cooper sacrifices himself, falling into the black hole and entering a tesseract—a multidimensional construct where he communicates with Murphy across time, revealing the key to solving Brand’s equation.
Murphy saves humanity, and Cooper is later rescued near Saturn, reuniting briefly with his aged daughter.
Realizing Brand is alone on the final planet, he sets out on a new journey to find her, leaving humanity’s future in her hands.
